Hi everyone, welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for this opportunity you’ve given us to come your way and minister God’s word and spend a few moments in prayer. Today, we will be talking about breaking down barriers. Ephesians chapter 2, verses 14 through 18, ‘For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.’ We all have been asked challenging questions, where is God when there are differences? Where is God when there is hatred? Where is God when there is fighting and killing? Why is it that God is not stopping this? Humanity seems to be getting worse day after day. Our thinking has been more fractured than any other generation. Barriers are popping up everywhere- cultural, racial, language, religion, politics, the economy, so many things separate us and often put us in a pit against each other. In our verse today, we are reminded that Jesus miraculously broke down the wall of hostility between the Jews and the Gentiles. Jesus is our peace and He creates one humanity out of distinct groups. Pride and selfishness account for everything that happens around in this world. Woes and conflicts, rulers who want greater power and more territory because they want to feed their pride. Sometimes, husband and wives argue and fight with each other because they are not willing to listen to each other’s point of view. Children rebel against parents because they want it their way. Teenagers think that parents don’t understand the younger generation. People from one nationality think that people from other nations are better or worse than them. The rich think that the poor are lazy and the poor think that the rich are greedy, but Jesus broke down these barriers, this dividing wall of hatred. In Mark chapter 7, Jesus took on the religious leaders over the issue that really defiles a person. It is not what they touch from the outside that defiles a person, but Jesus said, it is what they do on the inside. Jesus showed them that following God’s traditions over God’s truth will focus on cleaning them on the outside rather than on the inside. The gospel of Jesus Christ can break any barrier and forgive any sin, can bestow great faith, grant genuine repentance and give us a new birth. I want to end with this verse, Romans chapter 8, verse 38 to 39, ‘For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ Let us break down these barriers! Let’s pray, Father, we thank you that you have destroyed these walls and barriers among us. When you look at us, you look at us as your children, whether rich poor, whether from different races, languages or cultures, you look at us as one. I pray that you will put in us that spirit that when we look at people around us, our brothers and sisters and even those who are not yet believers, that we will look at them as brothers and sisters, that we will break down every barrier and learn to love them. Thank you for enabling us to do this, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
