Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to come together, meditate on God’s word and to pray together. This week, we are going to be talking about bible characters and how God used these wonderful men and women of God and how you and I as believers can learn from their lives. Today, we will be talking about Boaz. God is about to use an extraordinary person for His extraordinary purpose again. In every clan in Israel, the head of the family was considered the guardian redeemer, responsible for the well being of the family. This person was expected to rescue, ransom, buy back, recover or redeem anyone or any property that was in danger of being removed from the family by poverty or death. Boaz became the guardian redeemer for Naomi’s family and he needed to fix two problems. First one, a parcel of land had to be bought back and two, Ruth needed a husband. Boaz had to do some clever bargaining to redeem the land and marry Ruth and he was successful and the story of Ruth ended happily. Ruth gave birth to a grandson to Naomi to preserve her family name, what’s more, these people became ancestors of Israel’s great king David and even greater, the king of the world, Jesus Christ. The story is one of Bible’s great love stories. It overflows with kindness and compassion. It also highlights how God’s people experience His sovereignty and tender mercies as He works through the lives of the people. Like the good Samaritan in Jesus’ parable, Boaz goes out of His way to hep, to provide for Ruth and Naomi a home because they were his relatives. The people of Bethlehem blessed Boaz by saying in Ruth chapter 4, verse 11, ‘may you be famous in Bethlehem through the off springs the Lord gives you.’ God of course, is our real guardian, redeemer in this story. God sent Jesus, the descendant of Ruth and Boaz to pay redemption price for our freedom, to restore us our home in God’s family, to rescue us from the evil that threatens us and to give us a permanent home with Him. God’s work in this world is always about redemption, it is always about renewing, it is always about loving, it is always good news. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you, you are our redeemer, our strong fortress, our help in times of trouble. Thank you for redeeming us, thank you for your grace, your mercy in our lives, we pray that we will walk in your goodness, in your kindness, in your understanding, in your wisdom to glorify your name, we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
