Thank you so much for another opportunity to come to you today, spend these few moments in God’s word and pray with you. We are learning from the scriptures on what to do when we receive a prophecy/ a prophecy is given to us/ a prophetic word is given to us. We have highlighted the fact that we need to test the prophecy, we also need to discern the person, the vessel through whom that word is given to us. Are they trustworthy? Are they pointing us to Jesus? Then, we must believe, once we have tested the word and we have discerned that this is truly a word from God, this is truly something the Holy spirit is speaking, we’ve recognized the part which is good and we must hold fast to that which is good, a very important thing we must do with the word of prophecy is to believe God and to believe the word that He has spoken to us by His Spirit. In 2 Chronicles chapter 20 and verse 20, the scriptures tell us, ‘Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”’ Notice, ‘believing His prophets’ is put in that same category as believing in the Lord our God. Of course, we do understand the distinction between the Old Testament prophets and the New Testament prophets. We understand that there is this category of prophets that God used to give us the written scriptures and to be the mouthpiece of God and we also understand the gift of prophecy that operates through all believers, through which words of edification and comfort are delivered to one another, we understand the distinction. So, we are not categorizing prophecy/ prophetic words and making them equal with the written scriptures. Written scriptures are infallible, we believe it, we study it, we follow the written scriptures but prophecy has to be tested but once we test a prophetic word, then it draws us to a place of believing God and believing what He has spoken through that prophetic word. You can say, God, this is what I know you have spoken through your servant, by the Holy Spirit and so I’m receiving that word, I’m going to believe what the Spirit has spoken. So, through prophecy, God can unveil potential in our lives, God can reveal certain plans and purposes that He has for us, sometimes it could be correction, direction, telling us to go a certain way, sometimes it could be a word of instruction saying this is what I want you to do in this situation. The prophecy itself could have various components to it and it could bring different aspects of what God is saying to us in that situation/ moment in our lives. Our responsibility having tested it and having received it, our responsibility is to believe the prophetic word, saying God, I believe it, Holy Spirit, I know you have spoken, I’m receiving that and I’m going to follow through with that word. We are going to talk about what we can do once we embrace that word. Our first step is to believe it. Sometimes, God may speak a potential in our lives that we are not yet aware of because God knows what is hidden in us. There may be potential which we have not yet come to understand which God has already placed in us. So, there could be things that prophetic words would unveil and we need to embrace that and say, God, if that is what you are saying and if that is what you want to do in my life, I believe it and I’m going to walk with you, step by step, into seeing that word fulfilled. Let’s pray, Father, we ask you for the grace to receive prophecy, to discern, to test and to believe, to take a hold of what you have spoken and believe that you will fulfill what you have spoken, we thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
