Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Once again, it is such a joy to come together, to meditate on God’s word and to pray together. This week, we are talking about evangelism and how God has called each one of us to evangelize, to bring the good news to the people around us. Today, we talk about beautiful feet. Romans chapter 10, verses 14 and 15, ‘How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”’ I grew up in a family that went to church every Sunday. I remember how my parents insisted that on Sundays, shoes should always be cleaned and polished. As the youngest boy in my home, I would spend a lot of my Saturday evenings polishing shoes, but that is not what the apostle Paul is talking about when he says beautiful feet. Paul quotes a line from Isaiah that has to do with bringing the good news throughout the land. In ancient times, messengers were sent to kings from one city to another to bring news about battles, attacks from other nations. These messengers often ran a long way and their feet got dirty and bloody but when the messengers would bring good news, those tortured, bleeding feet were considered as beautiful feet. So, Isaiah is using this imagery to describe a messenger who brought us the good news of salvation and peace. In a world full of plagues, wars, destruction, hatred, animosity, we need messengers of good news, reconciled to God and one another. Jesus, the Savior sends us with good news saying ‘go and make disciples of all nations.’ People won’t look at our feet but they will see the joy on our faces as we share the gospel of Jesus Christ, as we share with them that God loves them and He is willing to forgive, willing to restore, willing to make things right in their lives. The Lord Jesus may not have had beautiful feet, He walked those dusty, dirty Palestinian roads on His travels, His rough feet were finally scarred and nailed on the cross. His feet probably took Him to difficult places where He showed a new way to the people. His feet did not matter because they saw the love of God in His life. We can only share the good news of the gospel by living it and making it real in our lives. We have good news to bring, we have beautiful feet. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for this privilege of just being your children. Thank you that we can go out and reach out to people, even as we go your word declares that you will direct our paths, that you will teach us to live a life that is pleasing and acceptable to you, that people will see the love of Christ, the grace of God upon our lives, that we will truly act as God’s children. We thank you for this opportunity, we pray that each one of us will walk with this authority, will walk with honor, integrity to bring glory to your name, we thank you for our feet, bless our feet even as we go, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
