Hi everyone, welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for taking this time to be with us, even as we spend time in God’s presence. Today, we will be talking about bearing fruit that matters. John chapter 15, verses 4 and 5, ‘Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.’ In a natural world, fruit is the result of a healthy plant producing what it is designed to produce. In the bible, we often hear the word fruit, to describe a person’s outward actions and the results that stem out from a heart. Trying to be righteous in what we do is not the same as earning salvation. We are saved only by God’s grace. But once we realize we are saved and declared righteous through Christ, we want to live a life of gratitude. Both the Old and New Testament teach us that the way we live is something about who I am and how I really understand this faith journey. Jesus teaches us that a tree must bear good fruit. Jesus told us clearly that when we bear good fruit, we are His disciples. A branch must stay firmly to the trunk of the tree for it to stay alive. A branch draws strength, nourishment, protection and energy from the vine. If it is broken off, it quickly dies and becomes unfruitful. When we neglect our spiritual life, ignore the word of God or skimp on our prayer and withhold areas of our life for scrutiny by the Holy Spirit, we are like a branch broken off from the vine. Our lives may become fruitless. We need to daily surrender, daily communicate, daily submit ourselves to God, to the working of the Holy Spirit, to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Our focus as Christians is not the fruit we produce, but the connection we have with God. When we focus our outward Christian life, we can be wrapped up in pretense. We can fall into a trap of putting on a holy facade without experiencing a real transformation in our heart. In that case, we bear fruit of our own, not that of the Holy Spirit and our hearts are actually lacking the love of Christ. God is the judge of our thoughts and our motivations. As the fruit of each tree is unique, our fruit is unique to us. God knows what He has entrusted to each one of us and what He expects us to do with it. Our responsibility before God is to be faithful in little so that He can trust us with much more. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for the word and that you said, ‘I am the vine and you are the branches, you who abides in me will bear much fruit.’ I pray that as your children, in everything that we do, even as we pursue integrity, we will see the fruit, we will bear much fruit in each of our lives, this fruit will glorify you and we thank you that you are doing this in each of our lives, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
