Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotional of All People’s church. This is the time that we take to look into God’s word, mediate on it and to study it with the intent of applying it in our lives. Today, we are focusing on this theme where the bible instructs and exhorts us to ‘be strong’. Every time the instruction comes, we know practically that in our lives it could be in a moment when our strength is depleted, we are feeling weak and yet the bible exhorts us to be strong. It is interesting to see the various contexts in which we are encouraged to be strong. Today, we are looking at this instruction – be strong in the Lord. This is from Ephesians chapter 6, verse 10 where Paul writes and says, ‘Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.’ After talking about a lot of things and discussing them, he says, finally my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. There is a reason why this instruction has come to the church and it is because of the spiritual nature of the battle. Because we engage the world and the powers of darkness and so it is a fight/ battle which is spiritual in nature. We are called to be strong which means be empowered, be enabled or increase in strength and in the power, literally means dominion and strength of the Lord. Might means the work of miraculous or supernatural, mighty deed or power. The bible says, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. We might be strong physically but are we strong in the Lord? What is the reason? Because of spiritual battle. How can I be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might? Obviously, the most apparent thing there is relationship, that we called to have a strong/ close walk with the Lord, a walk of intimacy, that is the foundation. Then His word, what do we do with the word? Because the word of God is nourishment for the believer, produces faith and we are called to be strong in the word as well. To be strong in the Lord means to be strong in the word and to have regular study of the word of God. It also means that we are strong/ regular in our prayer life. It also means that we are seeking after the anointing, presence, power of God, gifts of the Holy Spriit and so on. In this particular chapter, he goes on to explain the spiritual resources or the armor that is available for us. It says, put on the whole armor of God. So, when you put on, you can stand strong and stand in faith. Be careful of things that deplete our spiritual strength and give all attention to be strong in the Lord today. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for reminding us about our position, our identity and also to be strong in you. We pray that we will do whatever it takes to be strong in you and in the power of your might because the battles are not physical/ natural but supernatural and spiritual in nature. We thank you for warning us, encouraging and empowering us, in Jesus’ matchless we pray, Amen.
