Hi everyone, thank you so much for joining in. We're taking some time to meditate on the life of Abraham. We saw how God called Abraham and God called him to blessing and God called him to a brighter future. Today, we will talk about the response of Abraham. God's call for him could have been intimidating and quite scary because God had asked him to walk into the unknown. When we read about Abraham in Hebrews chapter 11, verses 8 through 10, this is what the Bible tells us, ‘By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, their heirs with him of the same promise; For he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.’ Abraham obeyed and how did he obey? By faith! Abraham believed God at His word and he stepped out into the unknown. The scripture says he went out not knowing where he was going. How amazing to heed the voice of God in such a way that even if we don't have all the answers, even if we don't have all the pieces of the puzzle, we still step out by faith and that is Abraham's story. By faith, he obeyed God and he went, he didn't know where he was going and that is how his journey started. And we see how he held on to the promised. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, they lived in tents while they waited for that promised land. When we read in the book of Genesis quite elaborately, God tells Abraham about the portion of land that he would give him and his descendants. But while Abraham was alive, we know that he did not possess the land. He was waiting, so were his descendants, but they believed that God would give what He had promised to them. Isn't that an amazing way to trust God when the promise is still not in sight during the lifetime of Abraham? But yet he believed, though he did not see it in his lifetime. And this particular promise was connected to his descendants which is why we see that Abraham himself did not possess the entire land but he walked in faith. It's very encouraging to see how Abraham journeyed in obedience. It was not just about the call that God had for Abraham, but we also see that when God tested him at a time when he wanted Isaac to be sacrificed, Abraham still obeyed. So, we're focusing on the response of Abraham. He was obedient. Whatever God said, he was obedient and how did he do that? By faith. He completely trusted God. He trusted that God's intentions are always good for him and this is a great encouragement for us to trust God when He asks us to do something. So, let's pray and let's ask God for the grace to always trust Him and to have our faith strong in Him. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for Abraham and Lord, how you worked such amazing things through him and his descendants. We see that his obedience led to blessings and so, Father, today, help us to be people of faith and help us by faith to do all that you have called us to do. We know that faith pleases you and you will help us to please your heart, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
