Hi everyone, welcome. We're talking about the life of Abraham and today, we will continue to look at his obedience and how he was even ready to sacrifice his son when God asked him to do so. Genesis chapter 22, verse 2 says, that’s the word of God to Abraham, ‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.’ We see that Abraham obeyed the instruction of God. We all understand that it was the hardest thing, not just for Abraham but for any of us, to sacrifice the very promise that we have waited for. In Abraham’s case, for at least 25 years, he had waited, believed God for Isaac and here is Isaac and God is telling him to sacrifice Isaac. But the interesting thing is Abraham enthusiastically obeyed the word of God. We read that he woke up early in the morning, he took his son with him and every other requirement for the sacrifice and by faith, he didn’t tell his son that they would come back. So, how did Abraham manage to be so obedient? How did Abraham mange to be willing to sacrifice the son of promise? When we look at Hebrews chapter 11, verses 17 through 19, the scriptures tell us that Abraham believed that God was even able to raise him from the dead. Even before resurrection was a thing, even before people understood the meaning of resurrection in scripture, way back; the friendship or fellowship of Abraham with God was so strong that he believed in resurrection. He knew that even if it took the raising of Isaac from the dead that God would do it and God could do and this is what motivated Abraham to obey God when he asked Abaham to sacrifice Isaac. Abraham knew that God’s promise would be fulfilled through Isaac and so there was no way for Isaac to be taken out of the picture. What an amazing faith Abraham displayed in the toughest situation of his life! Another thing that we learn from Abraham here is that faith needs action. Faith is not just something that we hold on to in our hearts and hope that it will be fulfilled some way or the other but faith requires action. Abraham believed that God would raise Isaac from the dead and so he went and was ready to do what God asked him to do. We see in James chapter 2, verses 21 and 22, the reference to this same incident where Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac and the scriptures talk about the importance of faith and works to happen together. So, friends, I just want to encourage us to be obedient to God and believe in God that He is greater than anything that we are facing today and may our faith be in action. Let’s pray together, Father, we thank you for teaching us faith that is even willing to sacrifice. We thank you that you are all powerful and that you will fulfill the promises you have for us. We thank you once again for what we are learning from the life of Abraham and help us to walk in the truth that we have learnt, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
