Hi everyone, welcome. We'll take some time to gain some insights from the life of Abraham. Today, we'll begin by reading from Genesis chapter 12, verses 1 to 3, ‘Now the Lord said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."’ Abram, a very central figure to the Jews as well as the Christians. We know that Abram is one individual who is connected to history. There's something unique that happened through the life of Abram and that is God's promise coming his way. As we just read, God called Abram and God instructed him to leave his people and go to a place that God would give him according to the promise. And we also see how God told him that there is a blessing attached to this and that God would make his name great and make him a great nation. And at age 75, God gave him a promise that he would bear a son. This is quite unusual for someone to bear a son at an older age and at that time, Abraham responded with faith to God. But the key here is for us to see that there was a call from God upon a man's life and that made all the difference in the life of Abraham. Heeding the call is the response of Abraham and we see how God made him the father of many nations and not only that, his descendants were promised a land and they moved towards the land. We understand that when God called Abraham, it was not a call to destroy him or his people, but it was a call of blessing. Whenever God calls us, we know that there is something greater that He has in store for us and He's calling us to things that we've not imagined, the things that we've not conceived. As we read in 1 Corinthians chapter 2, God wants us to walk into the fullness that He has for our lives and that's exactly what He had dreamt for Abraham and He called him for a greater purpose. And for that, Abraham had to make some sacrifices, which is of course to leave his own country, leave his own people and boldly walk into what God was calling him for. Thank God his response was one of obedience and therefore know we see the name of Abraham and not just him but also his wife listed in Hebrews chapter 11, that's the passage that talks about people of the Old Testament who walked by faith and who accomplished great things by faith. So, let's pray and let's ask God to give us the kind of faith that Abraham had and to be able to respond to God's call the way Abraham responded. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for examples in your word, people who held on to the call over their lives, that they were bold to complete what you had called them to do. Today, Father, we pray that each one of us will be sensitive to what you are speaking to us and that we will hold tight to the purpose that you have for each one of us. Stir it up in us by your Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves into your hands, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
