Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to come your way, to minister God's word and to spend a few moments in prayer. This week, we'll be talking about a heart of serving and how you and I as believers are called to serve in our church communities and even as we do that, we're going to look at various attributes that we can develop to serve faithfully in God's kingdom. Today, let's look at a heart of surrender. Romans chapter 12 verse 1, ‘I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.’ The biblical characteristic of surrender is a transformative act of yielding oneself fully to the will and the authority of God. It involves relinquishing our own desires, plans and control in order to be obedient to God's perfect purposes in our lives. Surrender is not a sign of weakness but a courageous act of trust and obedience. Throughout the Bible, we find wonderful examples of individuals who surrendered their lives to God and experienced God's faithfulness and blessings over their lives. In the book of Romans, Paul devotes 11 chapters to explaining God's incredible grace. However, starting from Romans chapter 12, Paul urges us to fully surrender our lives to God in worship. Surrender is an unpopular word disliked almost as much as the word submission. Surrender evokes the unpleasant images of admitting defeat in a battle, forfeiting a game, yielding to a stronger opponent. The word is almost always used in a negative context, captured criminals surrender to authorities. But in today's competitive culture, we are taught to never give up and never give in. So, we don't hear much about surrender. If winning is everything, surrender is unthinkable. We would rather talk about winning, succeeding, overcoming and conquering than yielding, submitting, obeying and surrendering. But surrendering to God is the heart of serving. One of the most powerful verses found in Romans chapter 12, verse 1, the verse calls us to offer our entire being as living sacrifices, acknowledging His mercies and surrendering ourselves wholly to His purposes. So, how can we develop an attitude of surrender to God in our own lives? Here are a few thoughts, recognize God's sovereignty. Surrender begins with recognizing that God is sovereign over everything. Two, seek God's will through prayer, spend time in prayer and seek His will. Three, trust in God's wisdom and goodness. Four, let go of control, release your desire to be in control at all times and in all occasions. Finally, surrender daily. Even as we do this, we believe that the Lord will pour out in each one of us a heart of surrender. Let's pray, Father, we thank you for calling each one of us as co- laborers with you. Even as we are serving, whether in the workplace, whether in church and ministry, we pray God that you will enable us to develop this heart of surrender that we will learn to balance both leadership and surrender and to know that you are in complete control over our lives. We thank you and we praise you, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
