Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for this opportunity to minister God's word and spend a few moments in prayer. Today, we will be talking about a heart of compassion. Mathew chapter 25, verse 40, ‘And the King will answer and say to them, Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ Compassion is a powerful attribute and is often defined as the ability to put oneself in another person’s place. It is an outward expression of love towards something or someone, being compelled to take action when we see the other in need. Our world needs godly compassion more than ever. People carry around many offenses that leads to their hardened hearts. The natural reaction is to either be indifferent or reciprocate in hostility. However, our supernatural response is to show a heart of compassion towards those who are hurting, even though their attitude is something less desirable. The above word ‘compassion’ is primarily reserved for God. The Lord has the capacity to be compassionate towards all that He has made and His dealings with people are always compassionate. He has committed Himself to be in covenant with those who receive His Son and He has a heart that is always moved with compassion for His children. We all have disobeyed God’s numerous commandments at many times but God has not ceased to show us His compassion. Jesus’ ministry was filled with passion and compassion. He was passionate towards God and compassionate towards people. He saw people as sheep who needed a shepherd. There were times that He wept over others and times He wept over the entire nation. In our fast-paced society, we need to slow down at times and demonstrate the compassion that God wants to demonstrate through us. Many times, we are quick to judge a situation without looking into details. We need to give opportunity for God’s grace and compassion to flow through us. Psalm chapter 147, verse 3 says, ‘God heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.’ 1 Peter chapter 2, verse 24 says, ‘who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.’ In the book of Isaiah, God is speaking to a worn out and distressed people who need hope and encouragement. He wants to assure them that times are changing with a promised Messiah. Do we have a heart of compassion for others? If not, we can pray that we would recognize God’s compassion towards us and that becomes an outflow towards others as well. The world needs compassionate and truthful Christians. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for compassion and that when you look at us, you are compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. You have called each one of us to walk in that same compassion and love. Enable us to walk in this attribute. Wherever we are, whether in the workplace or at home, to walk in God kind of love that our lives may glorify your name, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
