Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally, thank you so much once again for giving us this opportunity to spend time in God’s word and few moments in prayer. We wrap up this week in the study of the book of Proverbs, talking about a crown of splendor. Proverbs chapter 16, verse 31, ‘Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.’ The glory of young men is their strength, grey hair is the splendor of the old. Our proverb today reflects a general belief that long life is a sign of God’s blessing. We still agree as often as we hear someone say upon reaching old age, I’ve been blessed. As an indication of age, grey hair is not a disgrace but a distinction, a crown of splendor, an achievement to be celebrated, it is a way of identifying the elderly who deserve respect. If those having the crown of splendor are the ones who have lived a righteous life, we should treat them with even more respect. They are people to whom we should listen to if we are to live wisely and obediently. The Greek word translated ‘crown’ is ‘stephanos’- the source is from the name Stephen, the martyr and it means a badge of royalty, a prize in the public games or a symbol of honor. 1 Peter chapter 5, verse 4 says, ‘And when the chief shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.’ Though Peter is addressing the elders, we must remember that the crown will be awarded to all those who long for His appearing. The word ‘glory’ here is an interesting word referring to the very nature of God and His actions. It entails His great splendor and brightness. There are people to whom we should listen if we are to live wisely and obediently. I can’t picture Jesus with grey hair, yet, He lived the most righteous life ever. He wore a crown of thorns for our sake. Let us give Him the respect and worship that He alone deserves. Let us pray, Father, we thank you for this week and for teaching us from the book of Proverbs. We pray that everything that we have learnt will be in our hearts and spirit and we will learn to apply them in our lives. We submit each of our lives into your hands, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
