Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Ashish Raichur

Greetings! and thank you for the opportunity to come to you today and take a few moments with you in prayer and in the word of God. This week, we are just reflecting on being people after God's own heart or after God's heart. What does it mean? What would it look like in everyday life? Of course, we started by referencing the scriptures concerning David, when God called him and said, he's a man after my own heart. He said that first of all, to be after God's own heart is to pursue to know His heart. He said yesterday to be after God's own heart means that we desire what He desires. Today, I want to present this facet of being after God's own heart, it means we are yielded to His heart, that means we are surrendered, we are yielded to what He desires. It's one thing to know what He desires and another thing to desire what He desires of course, but also to be well yielded to that, to say okay to that. Because many times what He desires may be different from what we desire or what we would like. But when I choose to let go of my desire and choose to come aligned and be yielded to His desire, then I am really being a person after God's own heart because I am surrendering to His desires and in many situations, it may not be easy for us to do that. It will require some amount of training over time, conscious living like that and then we know, yeah, I will yield to the desires of God's heart. About David in Acts chapter 13 and verse 22, again from the Message bible, it says ‘he's a man whose heart beats to my heart. A man who will do what I tell him.’ Think about that, that's what God is saying, he's a man after my own heart. Why? Because he will do what I tell him, that means he's yielded to my heart. He is surrendered, he will go and do it, he will do what I tell him, he's yielded to my heart. So, to be a person after God's own heart is to be a person who is yielded to His heart, who will go and do what God tells you to do, no matter what the consequences are, no matter how difficult it may be, no matter what it takes, you and I go do the bidding of His heart. Then God could say that's a person after my own heart, that means we have yielded to His heart, we are surrendered to His heart, we will do what He tells us to do. Let's pray, O God, we ask you, Father that you will help us be people after your own heart, people who are yielded to your heart, that we will go and do what you tell us to do, help us to live like that, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
