Word (Daily Devotional)

by Ps Ashish Raichur

Greetings and it is our joy to join you this week and spend a little bit of time each day in God’s word and in prayer. This week, we are going to spend sometime talking about decision making from a biblical perspective. All of us have lots of decisions to make, sometimes these may be small, simple, easy decisions, sometimes these could be big, it could be personal, something that just matters to you. These decisions could sometimes be affecting other people, maybe the family/ workplace, maybe you are in charge of a team, department or organization etc. The scale of the impact of those decisions could vary depending on the situation and responsibilities and so on. So, what we want to do is consider this week, certain key pillars/ signposts that help us in making quality decisions and not just quality decisions but also decision that we know will please God and will give us results that will glorify God and truly bless people. We are going to talk about seven different pillars/ signposts through the course of this week but we want to make mention that throughout this decision-making process, we are in an attitude of prayer, that means we are listening to God. Sometimes, we do have time to pray about the decision you need to make, you may have couple of days, weeks and months to pray, sometimes you don’t have that time, you have to make the decision right then. It is an immediate moment where something has come up and an immediate decision needs to be made. So, again the time that we have would vary but our heart is a heart that is standing before God saying, I want to do the right thing, help me to make the right decision. The first pillar we must begin with and must be centered around is the word of God. All our decisions must be aligned to what God has given to us in His word. Psalms chapter 119, verse 105, a familiar verse, the psalmist says, ‘Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.’ In other words, God’s word is showing us the way in which we go, the direction we have to take, the decisions we have to make. So, the word of God is the basis, what God has taught us, what He has told us is right and wrong, where He has expressed His nature, what pleases Him, these things are very important for us and that is our starting point. So, the decisions we make, the question we ask within ourselves is, is this aligned to the word of God? And therefore, in order to make these kinds of decisions, we of course, must know the word, meditate in the word. The psalmist in the same psalm, Psalms chapter 119, verses 97 to 100, he says, ‘you know I love your word; I am meditating in your word and your word has made me wise, in fact it says, it has made me wiser than my enemies, teachers and elderly people. So, you can imagine the wisdom that God has made available to us through His word. So, the first pillar for us to make quality and God glorifying and people blessing decision is centered around the word of God, align it to the word but that means take time to know God’s word and the question you ask within yourself is, what is the decision that I should make which will keep me aligned to God’s word? Let’s pray, Father, we thank you that you are the Lord who teaches us and guides us in our decision making, small and big. We ask that you will give us your wisdom, teach us how to make good, quality decision that glorify you and serve people well, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
