Greetings, welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for this opportunity to minister God’s word and spend a few moments in prayer. Today, we will look at the quality of wisdom. James chapter 1, verse 5, ‘If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.’ Wisdom is the faculty of making the use of knowledge, a combination of discernment, judgement and prudence. If knowledge is the accumulation of facts, intelligence and the development of reason, wisdom is heavenly discernment. It is insight into the heart of things. Wisdom involves knowing God and the subtleties of the human heart. More than knowledge, it is the right application of knowledge in moral and spiritual matters. Wisdom gives a leader balance to help avoid eccentricities and extravagance. Wisdom and understanding are definitely companion qualities and it is hard to separate one from another and that is why they are mentioned in the same breath in many biblical scriptures. We need both. To have wisdom is to have the ability to apply intelligence, knowledge or skill in the right way and right time. To have understanding means to have the ability to apply discernment in order to accurately size up the situation. When used together, wisdom and understanding are a powerhouse quality that allows a person to correctly perceive very complex situation in order to know how to properly handle them. Leaders are encouraged to seek wisdom from God. When we are faced with challenging decisions or situations, we can humbly ask God for wisdom knowing that He will generously provide to us. Leaders must also recognize the importance of seeking godly counsel and advice from others. Wise leaders understand the value of diverse perspectives and surround themselves with trusted advisors to make informed decisions. Proverbs chapter 4, verse 7 says, ‘the beginning of wisdom is this, get wisdom.’ This verse emphasizes the pursuit of wisdom as a lifelong journey. Wise leaders continually seek wisdom, investing time and effort to gain understanding that positively influences their leadership. Our desire for wisdom and understanding should be greater than the desire of money, possessions, wealth, prestige, achievement etc. We are living in uncertain times and definitely challenging times. From a world-wide pandemic to political upheaval to our own personal circumstances, we are facing challenges today unlike any other. Still, this is not the time for Christians to timidly sit back and be paralyzed with fear. Now more than ever, we need to take our place as leaders in the society. The apostle Paul prayed for Christians in the city of Colosse that they may be filled with the knowledge of God’ will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. We can have more than a dose of wisdom and a hint of understanding. I believe that we will be filled with the knowledge of God’s will, understanding and wisdom. Let us pray, Father, we thank you for this quality of wisdom and for your word which says that when we ask, you will give us. We pray that you will fill us with this virtue of wisdom and understanding. No matter what sphere of influence we are in that you will teach us to walk in wisdom. Fill us with your understanding that we may glorify your name, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
