Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Paul Emmanuel

Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to come together, minister God’s word and spend a few moments in prayer. This week, we will be talking about healing and the various ways Jesus brought healing during His earthly ministry. Mark chapter 10, verses 46 to 52, ‘Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” So, Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.” And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. So, Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus.’ In this encounter, Bartimaeus met Jesus. In the book of Mark, there are many stories of Jesus healing many people during His earthly ministry but the story of blind Bartimaeus is a remarkable one. Mark takes the trouble to tell us his name but many other people who Jesus met was just a man in the crowd or a woman with the issue of bleeding. We are also told that Bartimaeus followed Jesus after being healed and this event happened just before Jesus died on the cross. Jesus said to Bartimeus that his faith had healed him. Bartimeus believed not in himself but in Jesus’ power to heal. When he saw Jesus, he called Jesus the Son of David which is a royal title and when Bartimeus went to Jesus, he threw his cloak aside. Bartimeus was wiling to toss aside perhaps the only possession that he owned in order to seek Jesus. Graciously, Jesus responds, what do you want me to do for you? Jesus had asked James and John the same question, but they had answered saying they wanted places of honor with Jesus in heaven. Jesus restores Bartimeus’ sight and sends him away. The man sees what he must do next. Bartimeus is a model disciple for us. He goes on to follow Jesus, no longer blind, he becomes a follower of Christ. No matter who we are, we can approach Jesus with the same kind of simple faith. We can trust that Jesus will heal us and His power alone will save us. Christ’ question echoes through history, what do you want me to do for you? Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for your word and your promise, you said that healing is ours. We pray that wherever we are, that we will tap into that healing and receive your healing over each one of our bodies, we give you all the praise, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
