Vessel Of Honor (Daily Devotional)

Hello and welcome back to Living Supernaturally, I hope you are having a great day in the Lord and in His word. Today, we are going to look at 2 Timothy chapter 2, verses 20 to 22, it reads like this, ‘But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.’ Paul writing to Timothy, lays down some instructions and says, there are vessels of honor and dishonor in a house. Symbolically, he is talking about us personally, the lives that we lead, things that we do and he says, we could be vessels of honor or dishonor. But he gives a great responsibility and says, if anyone cleanses oneself from dishonor, things that are dishonorable, unclean then he will be a vessel of honor. If anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified which means set apart and useful, advantageous, beneficial, effective for the Master’s use. He is saying to cleanse one self. The word that he uses there is a strong word which is to purge, which means to intentionally cleanse, forcefully remove all impurities. He is saying, if one purges intentionally, cleanses and removes these impurities then one would be a vessel for honor or useful for honorable use, sanctified which means set apart and effective in the Lord’s hand, effective for ministry, effective witness, effective conduit of the power and presence of God. We see that effectiveness in ministry or living for Christ is linked/ connected to a life of sanctification. When we cleanse ourself, it doesn’t happen any other way, it is linked to sanctification. So, one can come and be a vessel of honor if we would take responsibility for our lives and intentionally cleanse ourselves of all things that are impure and we know that these are things that need not be there and should not be tolerated in our lives. Maybe things of the flesh, sinful things, maybe intentions, attitudes, habits which we shouldn’t tolerate. Then he says that you will be useful/ effective in the Master’s hands. He says that prepare for every good work which means to be well equipped where the path is cleared for every good work and we are invited for this. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you that you’ve given us the responsibility to move and cleanse ourselves from being vessels of dishonor and to be vessels of honor in the Master’s hands. We thank you that you have called us to intentionally and forcefully cleanse ourselves, remove all kind of things that make us unholy and impure, it could be our intentions, attitudes, things that we are habitually involved in, indulge in, we pray that we would put an end to that so that we can be a vessel of honor in your hand, we give you all the praise and glory, in Jesus’s matchless name we pray, Amen.
