Time (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you for the opportunity to come to you and spend these few moments with you in God’s word and prayer. This week, we’ve been considering wise investments. Today, we want to talk about time itself as an investment. What do we do with our time? We’ve all got 24 hours in a day. How do you manage those 24 hours? That is an investment in itself. The apostle Paul writes in Ephesians chapter 5, verses 15 and 16, he says, ‘See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.’ He says, walk with wisdom, walk circumspectly, that means you are prudent and watching over things. Part of walking with wisdom and circumspectly is redeeming the time. Don’t let time just slip away, just slither away but you are actually buying back time so to speak, that means you are capturing/ seizing every moment, putting it into work for you, investing your time in the right things. He says, do this because the days are evil, because the times in which we live are evil. There are so many things that can consume our time in non-beneficial ways and in unprofitable ways. So, he says, you got to be wise and redeem your time, protect your time, guard it, buy it back and invest it into things that really matter. So, time is a precious commodity, it is something that is very precious, it is intangible, that means you can’t capture it in a bottle, it is passing by and it is moving constantly. So, if we are not careful/ mindful of this we can have lot of time just pass by and not even know what we have done with it. So, you got to be wise, intentional and say, I’m going to make sure that I use my time well. I’m going to do things in that time, I’m going to invest it in good things, the time that I give to other people, the time for myself, my family, my children, all these things matter. When you bless somebody with time, you are making an investment into their lives of your life itself because your time represents you and your life and all that you are. Your time is important. The psalmist prayed in Psalm chapter 90, verse 12, ‘teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.’ The contemporary English version says, ‘teach us to use wisely all the time we have.’ Use all the time we have wisely. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for time that you’ve given to us. Help us to invest time wisely, put it to good use, give us the wisdom to do that, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
