The Pursuit (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you for joining us today. This week, we've been talking about the past, the present, the future. How do we as believers look at the past, live in the present and what are we looking forward to in the future? We mentioned two things that we must be occupied with in the present- the purpose of God and the process of God, what God is working in us. The third aspect of what we must be occupied in the present is the pursuit. In our text in Philippians chapter 3, verses 13 to 14, the apostle Paul says, ‘I am reaching forward to those things which are ahead,   I press towards.’ In the present, I am reaching forward; in the present, I am pressing ahead, there is a pursuit that is going on. So, we see three things, as believers, as we are living in the present, we are mindful of the purpose of God, the ‘that for which’, we are engaged in the process of God, we have not already attained, but we are still moving and progressing and we are pursuing, we are reaching forward, we are pressing ahead that is what we are doing in the present? What are you doing in the present? I am pushing forward, I am making efforts to move into something, I am pursuing something. So, as you see how you are investing your time, your efforts, your energy, your resources, are they expressing the fact that you are actually making efforts to move ahead? Are you pressing forward? Are you saying, I am going ahead, I’m not stagnating, I am not settling down here, this is not the place I’m going to camp for, for the rest of my life? No! I am pressing ahead and making an effort to become something, to grow into something, to achieve something, that is the pursuit. In the present, there are three things we are doing, we are recognizing the purpose of God, everything is directed by that purpose. We are engaged with the process of what God is doing. We are also pursuing, making efforts to move ahead, whatever God has for each of our lives. Let’s pray, Lord, we ask that you will help us pursue, to press ahead, to reach forward that all our energies, our time, resources are being channeled towards moving into what you have in store for us. Show us how to do this, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
