The Purpose (Daily Devotional)

by Ps Ashish Raichur

Greetings and thank you for joining us today for this daily devotional, it is always a joy to be able to spend a few moments in God’s word and in prayer. This week, we're talking about the past, the present, the future; how we as believers dwell in these three-time segments of our lives? We talked about learning to forget the past and remember the past. I think a good analogy would be to when a person is driving a vehicle, we have this rear-view mirror. Every now and then, we glance at the rear-view mirror and that is important because it shows what is behind us. As we look in the rear-view mirror and know what is behind us, it helps us be careful in the present, you don’t want to cross a lane or if there is a car passing by from the back. So, glancing at the rear-view mirror is useful and it helps us in the present. But you cannot drive forward with your eyes always foxed on the rear-view mirror, nobody can do that, we got to live in the present. As we live in the present, what are some of the things we must do? Going back to our text in Philippians chapter 3, verses 12 to 14, the apostle Paul said, ‘Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.’ So, what must I do in the present? I am pressing on; I want to lay a hold of the purpose for which Jesus has laid a hold of me. ‘That for which’, means the purpose for which the Lord has laid a hold of me. So, in the present I need to be focused on the purpose. Why did Jesus lay a hold of me? Why did Jesus touch my life? Why did He call me? What does He want me to do? A that for which purpose with which Jesus has laid a hold of me. So, in the present, what must we do? Stay focused on the purpose. Ask yourself, what does God want me to do? What has He called me to do? What does He want to release through my life. The ‘that for which’ He has laid a hold of me. That is part of our present, the purpose of God, that’s what directs us and keeps us occupied and engaged here and now. Everything we do here and now, should be connected to God’s purpose. How you deal with your family, your children, your work, your finances, in everything, God’s purpose is the overriding, guiding, determining factor, the purpose of God. He says, I’m pressing, I want to lay a hold of that for which, I want to get a grip on the purpose of God for my life. Let’s pray, Fater, we ask that in the present, you will help us live lives that are directed by your purpose. May the purpose of God determine everything we do here and now in the present. Help us to live with that, the purpose of God in mind, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
