Daily Devotional church in Bangalore

Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to minister God's word and spend a few moments in prayer. Today, we'll be talking about the glory of Jesus. Luke chapter 9, verses 24 to 26, ‘for whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? For whoever is ashamed of me and my words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the Holy angels. Throughout Jesus's teaching ministry, Jesus continued to have a heaven focused mind. Even as He looked ahead to His suffering and death, He told His disciples of a future glory. When we think of the glory of God, we probably have something like Isaiah chapter 6 in mind. The prophet Isaiah had a vision of God in the heavenly temple, high and exalted, seated on a throne. Seraphim, fiery creatures with wings were flying about singing the whole earth is filled with His glory and the temple trembled and shook. Now that is glory. Glory is big, glory is high, glory is powerful. Know that that's what James and John have in mind when they ask to sit on either side of Jesus in His glory. They wanted the best seats in the house, they want to be where the action was, they wanted to be where the power resides but they had no idea what they were talking about because Jesus is on a long mission that will redefine glory. Glory will not describe an untouchable God so high and to be invisible except in a vision. Glory will now describe God and human flesh, lifted a few feet off the ground and nailed to a cross. Glory will now describe the God available to be touched, to be spat on, to be mocked. This is what it means for God to be human and this is how glory is redefined when God becomes a suffering servant. But Jesus's treatment at the hands of the sinful people had implications for His followers too. As God's people, we can expect the powers of evil to attack and to destroy us. Perhaps, we may have been on the receiving end of others sinful behavior, abuse, neglect, harassment or persecution. But Jesus assures us that He knows what this experience of hurt is and He points our attention heavenward to the glory of God. Perhaps having a relationship with Jesus embarrasses us or doesn't seem important enough in our social circles. Jesus's word reminds us that true glory comes only from Him. May we remember this glory of the crucified and resurrected Lord. Let us pray, Father, we thank you for your word and we thank you for speaking to us today. I pray that you will minister to each of us Lord that our hearts and minds will be heaven focused. Thank you for the promise that you have for us that you will fill us with your glory and your power, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
