Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally, this is our daily devotion of All People’s church, where we take time to look into God’s word. Today, we are looking at 2 Timothy chapter 2, verses 24 to 26, ‘And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.’ Here, Paul is writing to Timothy and saying these are some qualities/ characteristics to be found/ developed in a servant of the Lord. The word used there is ‘bondservant’, a ‘slave’, one who has given up one’s right to the Lord, surrendered/ yielded one’s will to the Lord. He is saying, a servant of the Lord must not quarrel/ wrestle/ engage in a war of words/ contend for privileges. He is saying one shouldn’t do that but should be gentle and have the ability to teach and be patient. So, this servant of God must be gentle, not quarrel but be willing to correct and administer that correction with humility. This means the servant of God doesn’t neglect/ ignore correction, that is the other extreme but we should recognize if something is wrong and if it needs correction. So, recognize when someone makes a mistake, don’t ignore/ neglect it but bring in correction. Now that willingness to correct should be from a place of humility and not pride. It is not to show, I am right and you are wrong, it is not to show from a place of pride but it is to correct that person and not put down/ take away the dignity of that person but to bring in correction with humility. The objective is so that the person who is indulging in wrongdoing/ wrong thinking might come to a place of repentance and conviction that what he is doing is wrong and make a decision to change and that comes only when there is correction administered from a place of Christlike humility. So, Paul is laying this down so that those who are sinning and opposing may come to a place of repentance and restoration. May the Lord use us in these ways. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you that this is your description or one of the characteristics of us who are called to be servant of the Most high God. Lord, you want us to have this in place that we will intentionally correct with humility, not to put the person down but the build them up with the view to bring them to restoration and conviction. We pray that the Spirit of God will enable us, empower us, give us wisdom and the discernment to know when to say, what to say and how to say, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
