Shalom and welcome back to this series of Living Supernaturally. We have been looking, learning, and meditating on the theme of restoration. Today, we are going to be looking again at another aspect of restoration which is to know that God restores all that is lost. Let’s read from Joel chapter 2, verses 25 to 26, ‘And I will restore or replace for you the years that the locust has eaten–the hopping locust, the stripping locust, and the crawling locust, my great army which I sent among you. And you shall eat in plenty and be satisfied and praise the name of the Lord, your God, who has dealt wondrously with you and my people shall never be put to shame.’ When we look at the prophet Joel and the context with which he wrote this, he speaks of a time when there were significant crises in Judah. The land was actually suffering a plague, a devastating locust plague which had led to famine and a lot of economic distress. This disaster serves as both as a literal event as well as a metaphor for the coming of the day of the Lord, that is a future time of judgement and purification. In Joel, God promises to restore the fortunes of His people, all that was lost, years of crops that were lost due to those locust invasions. God promises not just to end the plague but He promises to bring about a time of abundance and great blessing. It is interesting to note that God says, ‘my great army that I send among you’; the God who sent this army also promises restoration. He is underscoring that His sovereignty is over all events, both things that had calamity in it and that brings redemption. The result of this restoration, as we see in this verse is not just meant to be physical or material, it says, the people will praise the name of the Lord and recognize Him as the one who has worked wonders for them. This restoration will also lead to a spiritual revival where the name of God is exalted. The promise that God’s people will never be shamed both immediately and also in the end times, you see those implications there. It means that Judah will no longer face the disgrace of being unable to feed its people and in a broader sense, it points forward to the time when God’s people will live forever without the shame of sin, without defeat, without oppression and is in God’s kingdom. These verses from Joel can provide hope and peace to those of us who are in challenging situations. It reminds us of God’s restorative power and His faithfulness to His promises. It is an encouragement to persevere, to hold onto faith and expect that God will intervene in due time and will restore back unto us all that which is lost. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, the God who restores all that is lost, thank you for buying back whatever we have lost as a result of many situations in our lives. Thank you for bringing back honor into our lives and help us through this victory to bring praise to our God, thank you for all that you do, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
