Greetings and it is a joy to be able to come to you once again today, in this week leading up to Christmas as we answer this question, do we still need Christmas? Do we still need a mediator, somebody who can connect us to God, our creator? The bible tells us in 1 Timothy chapter 2, verses 5 and 6, speaking about Jesus, the apostle Paul writes, ‘For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.’ There is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Jesus Christ, the one who was incarnate, who became man, He is the mediator. Do we still need Christmas? Do we still need a mediator? Do we need somebody who can bring us to God, who can usher us into the presence of God, not just the presence of God but into the very family of God, do we still need somebody like that? Without God, we are hopeless. We cannot find our real purpose because we were created for the express purpose of a relationship with God. Out of that relationship comes meaning and fulfillment in life. So, do we need a relationship with God? Do we need somebody who can bring us into the very family of God? Do we need someone who can connect us into a relationship with God where God becomes our Father and we become His sons and daughter and from there we find our purpose, meaning and fulfillment in this life here on earth, do we need somebody like that? We still need a mediator. The bible says, there is one mediator between God and man and that is Jesus Christ. Do we still need Christmas? It is not about the celebration, but about the recognition that there is one mediator who in our world today connects us with God. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life, no man can come to the Father except through me. So, we come to the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ. He is our mediator and He brings us into the very presence of God, He connects us into the family of God, He brings us in as sons and daughters so we can have a relationship with God and no one else can do this for us. Do we still need Christmas? Do we still need a mediator? I believe so, and there is one mediator and that is Jesus Christ and this Christmas we are celebrating what He still does for us today in brining us into the family of God. Let’s pray, Lord Jesus, we thank you that you bring us into God’s family as sons and daughters. You are our mediator and we need you, we celebrate you and the work you have done for each of us. Thank you for making us sons and daughters of God, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
