Hello and welcome, this is Living Supernaturally, the daily devotion of All People’s church, we are so glad that you could be part of it. This week, we’ve been studying on this theme ‘seek and pursue’. Today, specifically, we are looking at this topic, pursue what is good. It is an instruction and exhortation from scripture to pursue what is good. We know that the word pursue means to go after with an intention of acquiring something. It is not a very passive journey but an active, intentional journey or series of steps that we take in order to acquire something. It says here, pursue what is good. The scripture that we are looking at is 1 Thessalonians chapter 5, verse 15, it says, ‘See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.’ It says, always pursue. First part of it says see that no one renders evil for evil. So, suppose there is someone or there has been a situation where someone does something that is evil to us or contrary to our benefit, which takes away something from us, which causes harm, a breakdown in relationship even, this instruction is that don’t render evil or don’t payback with the same coin. See that no one renders evil for evil but always pursue. The word ‘always’ means at all times. At all times pursue, earnestly endeavor to acquire what is good. The word used there is something that is useful, pleasant, agreeable, joyful, excellent, of good value, quality and also something that is upright and honorable. It says always pursue what is good. The last part of the verse says, always pursue what is good both for yourself and for all. Which means let it not be a selfish pursuit of something that is good only for myself but for all. We see a similar truth or instruction in Philippians chapter 2, verse 4, it says, ‘Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.’ This means there is nothing wrong for looking out for our own interest but it says at the same time look out for the interests of others also. Always pursue what is good for yourself and for others. Today, in a professional setting or home setting, there could be instances where we feel like rendering evil for evil, but today, if we would take a stand and say no, I’m going to put this word to test, I’m going to walk this truth, the Lord’s favor and grace we will experience. Shall we pray, Father, we thank you for this instruction that you’ve given us not to render evil for evil but to pursue good with all people and at all times. We pray that you will give us the grace to do that, empower us by your Holy Spirit, quicken your word to us and enable us to follow through with this exhortation. May we experience your favor, grace and power even as we do that in all situations, in Jesus’s matchless name we pray, Amen.
