Greetings and thank you for tuning in to our daily devotional today. Today is the last day of 2024 and we're going to be stepping into a brand-new year very soon. This week, we've been reflecting on the benevolence of God. I just want to remind us of scriptures that talk to us about how God blesses His people, how God is good towards His people just to encourage us as we prepare for the year ahead. I want to remind us of two scriptures Psalm chapter 35 and verse 27, both these are from Psalms of David. Psalm chapter 35, verse 27, David says, ‘let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servants.”’ Psalm chapter 37, verse 37, a favorite verse, ‘Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; for the future of that man is peace.’ David is expressing his knowledge of God and who he knows God to be. When you listen to different people, they say all kinds of the things about God but we got to come back to the Bible and God has given this to us and this is how His people have understood Him to be, understood who He is and have expressed that for us. So, David says Psalm chapter 35, verse 27, those who favor my righteous cause, those who are on my side, I want them to say, let the Lord be magnified because God is pleased with the prosperity of His servant. He says, I want those who are on my side, I want them to be saying this, I want them to have this assurance and I want them to have this declaration, let God be magnified because God is pleased with the prosperity, with seeing His children prosper, with seeing His people do well. The word prosperity could for each one of us in different stages of life could mean different things of course. To a student it means do well in your studies. To a person who's starting out in his professional life, do well in your job or do well in whatever you're doing. To somebody else who's married and so on they want to see everything go well in their family, their home, with their children, with their work and all of that. So, it could mean different things to different ones of us but the assurance is that God is pleased with the prosperity of His people. He wants to see His people do well. He wants to see you do well. God is pleased with your prosperity. So, don't have the wrong idea that God is doesn't want me to do well. No, God wants you to do well, He's pleased with your prosperity. So, David says, let people say this, let them say it, God is pleased with the prosperity of His servant. Then he says in Psalm chapter 37, verse 37, ‘Mark the blameless man, watch the upright; because the future of that man is shalom. Shalom is a Hebrew word for total wellbeing. God has total well-being for His people, for those who walk before God blamelessly, walk uprightly before God, He says, that's your future, total wellbeing. You and I can have that assurance because our God is a benevolent God. As you look ahead to the year ahead, expect God to prosper you in all things that matter to you, expect shalom, total well-being in all areas of your life, that's our God. Let's pray, Father, we thank you for your benevolence, for your goodness in our life, that out of your goodness you want your people to do well in all things. Be blessed with shalom, with great shalom in all areas of life, we thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
