Hello everyone, welcome! We are talking about growing by God’s word and today I want us to look at the useful practice of mediation. Psalms chapter 119 and verse 15, it says, ‘I will meditate on your precepts, and contemplate your ways.’ The psalmist had this habit of meditating on the precepts of God and contemplating His ways or giving much thought to what God had spoken and what God was revealing and showing to Him. When we talk about Christian meditation, this is about chewing on God’s word, it is about taking scripture, muttering that scripture, or speaking it time and again to oneself through our mouth, in our hearts, in our minds and this is scriptural meditation. When we say that one must meditate in God’s word, it means one must repeat God’s word over and over to themselves. What happens when we do this? The word become a part of us, God wants His word to transform our thinking. Paul in writing to the Romans, Romans chapter 12 and verse 2, he says, ‘be transformed by the renewing of your mind’ and the renewal of our minds is to change our patterns of thinking into God’s pattern and that is going to take meditation. Now, meditation consists of three simple things, one is contemplation, which is to think within ourselves, next is visualization which is seeing with our mind’s eye and third is confession which is to say what God says. All these become a part of getting the word in us and getting the word out of us and releasing the power of God’s word. I want to encourage us to take time in meditating on scriptures; For some of us, maybe it is about taking a single verse initially and then thinking over it, speaking it to ourselves or it could be an entire passage but let’s start somewhere and make meditation a practice in our lives and it will strengthen us, and lead us in a path of growth. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for your word, which helps us paint our imagination with your goodness and the hope and the life which you bring to us. Enable us by your Spirit to meditate on your word and to live a victorious life in you, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
