Shalom and thank you and welcome that you've come today and joined us in this time of devotion and this time of looking into God's word. We've been focusing on the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians chapter 5 and we are seeing practically how do we live out these fruit of love, joy and peace. Today, the focus is on patience and as we've been reiterating through the last two days that the fruit of the Spirit is the result of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is not done by our by our own doing but because of who the Spirit is and His working in our lives. So, when we look at patience, living out patience as a fruit of the Spirit is essential for Christians because we reflect the character of God, we reflect who God is especially at times when we have challenges and when we need to continue to persevere. James chapter 1, verses 2 to 4 reads, ‘my brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.’ So, let's explore what it means to practically live out patience. So, patience involves trusting in the timing of God rather than demanding immediate results. We see in the verse, it says, wait for the Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Living out patience means surrendering our timelines to God. What's another way? Patience involves enduring trials with perseverance knowing that God will use them to strengthen our faith and character. What else do we see? The Bible says to be completely humble and gentle, being patient with one another. So, living out patience means extending grace and understanding to others even when they fall short or they disappoint us. It involves forgiveness, forgiving others just like the way God forgave us. Patience is also very closely linked to another fruit which is self-control, living out patience requires exercising self-control over our own emotions, our behavior, our impulses, our desires. It is a way that we require and exercise that self-control. Living out all patience also means trust, trusting in the promises of God and persevering till we see it being fulfilled. Living out patience also involves responding to provocation with gentleness and humility. Living steadfast in prayer, trusting that God will hear our prayer and answer them according to His will and timing. So, we see that living out patience has so many aspects in our lives. When we apply these principles, we live out patience as a fruit of the Spirit, allowing God to work in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, even as we have looked into deep about the fruit of patience, there may be many situations around us that we need to exercise this. Holy Spirit, empower us to be patient with others, to be patient in waiting, to be patient in conflicts, to be patient with ourselves. Father, thank you that you always equip us for greater things, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
