Daily Devotions for Spirit Filled Living

God's Word is spiritual food and nourishment. The Bible uses many metaphors: bread, milk, meat, food, water, honey, seed, rain, light, lamp, gold, sword, etc. for itself. God's Word is the basis for our faith. It is God's power at work in our lives. As you receive God's Word expect to receive wisdom and guidance. Expect to be healed, delivered, transformed. Expect God's supernatural power to work miracles in your life. His Word never return void or unfulfilled.

Each daily devotion is about five minutes in duration. We have intentionally developed the daily devotions around a weekly theme. So there are seven days of daily devotions that focus on the theme and bring you insight, understanding and revelation from the Bible. Each week's theme is listed as a series. So you can listen to the current week's daily devotions or go to any previous theme/series that speaks to your present need.

You can watch the video or download and listen to the audio. Almost all daily devotions end with a prayer. You can access these from this page as well as from the Home page of this website.

All our daily devotions are also available on our free church App for you to listen on your mobile device. Download our free church App from App or Google Play stores. Search for "All Peoples Church Bangalore".

Lamp (Daily Devotional)

by Ps Ashish Raichur

Greetings and thank you so much for the opportunity to come to you once again today, spend a few moments in the word of God and in prayer. This week, our theme is the human spirit and what we are doing is to get some insight about the spirit, who we are as God created us, while looking at the pictures/ analogies that God uses in the scriptures to reference the spirit. Yesterday, we said God uses the analogy of a house. Today, I want to point us to a lamp. The human spirit is a reference to as a lamp. In Proverbs chapter 20, verse 27, Solomon talks about the spirit and says ‘the spirit of a man is the candle or the lamp of the Lord lighting all the inward parts/ places.’ In Psalm chapter 18 and verse 28, the psalmist says, ‘the Lord will light my candle.’ Now of course, keep in mind that in the Old Testament times, they didn’t have tube lights and bulbs but they used lamps and candles, so we understand what he is talking about. In both these verses, he is talking about the spirit as a candle or a lamp. Obviously, a candle/ lamp gives light so that we can see/ perceive. It is very interesting in Psalm chapter 18, he says, that the Lord lights the candle, the Lord gives light there. So, your spirit is like a lamp, it is like a candle and the candle is used to give guidance and light so you can see where you are going, you can avoid things that might cause you to trip/ fall, avoid the potholes or danger places. The light is actually given to us by the Lord, the Lord will light my candle. What is this picture telling us about? The spirit of man is the place where the Lord provides His guidance to us. We see this also in the New Testament, in Romans chapter 8, the bible says, ‘the Spirit bears witness with our spirits,’ that means the Holy Spirit is speaking to us, where? In our spirit and as many are led by the Spirit of God, they are the children of God. The leading / speaking/ witnessing of the Spirit comes to us in our spirit, that is the lamp/ candle/ place where the Holy Spirit gives us direction because many believers when they want direction, what do they do? The look for outward signs, the look for things here and there, Lord, if there is a cloud in the sky, it is yes; if there is no cloud, it means no. If an aeroplane flies in the sky, it is a yes; if there is no aeroplane it means no. We are looking for thins outside and sometimes we get a little spiritual and we say we are putting some fleeces here and there. Fleeces are not the way by which the Lord leads us. God leads us by lighting up our spirits, that means your guidance from God is going to come to you in your spirit and that is where you and I must learn to listen to the witness or the leading of the Spirit. Remember, your spirit is a lamp and God lights a lamp right there, He provides guidance right there. Learn to receive guidance from the Lord in your spirit. Let’s pray, Father, we ask that you will help us understand how you created and designed us, what the spirit of man is about so that we can walk with you and truly be the kind of people you want us to be, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
