Kingdom (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and thank you for the opportunity to come to you today and spend these few moments in the word of God and prayer. This week, we are considering wise investments. One of things we can invest our time, effort and energy based on the word and we can begin to pursue those things, knowing there will be good rewards/ dividends paid out for us in this life and also in the life to come. Today, we want to consider investing in the kingdom, that means in the cause and purpose of God’s rule and reign here on earth in the lives of people. Jesus put it like this Mathew chapter 6, verse 33, a very familiar scripture, He said, ‘Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.’ Look at the investments and dividends. The investment is put His kingdom first, do what is right before Him, pursue His righteousness and kingdom and invest into His kingdom. What are the dividends? All these things that you need for life, what you going to eat, drink, everything else, the material things will be added to you, you invest in the kingdom. Jesus made this outstanding/ shocking statement in Mark chapter 10, verses 28 to 30, Peter was trying to highlight this to Jesus, Lord, we have left everything to follow you. In other words, Lord, look at what a great price we have made, we have invested everything we have for the sake of following you and the kingdom that you are ushering in. Jesus turns around to Peter and says, Peter, I want to tell you something, no one has left houses, brothers, sisters, father, mother, wife or children or lands for my sake and the gospel who will not receive a hundred-fold now in this time- houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, lands with persecution and in the age to come, eternal life. So, in response to Peter saying, if you want to paraphrase that, Master, you know we have invested everything into your kingdom, Jesus is saying, look Peter, you will get a hundred-fold return in this life and the life to come. Yes, there will be hardships, I’m not saying it’s going to be easy but I will make sure you get a hundred-fold return on your investment. So, when we invest into Christ’ kingdom and His cause and purpose, pursuing and doing what will further His kingdom here on earth, when you say Lord, use my career, profession, life, position me where you want me to be positioned, I’m willing to invest my own dream, hopes, aspirations for the sake of your kingdom, He says, I will give you a hundred-fold in this life and in the life to come. Invest into the kingdom. Let’s pray, Father, we ask that you will teach us how to practically seek first your kingdom and your righteousness and all that we do, to invest into your kingdom knowing there is a great return in this life and the life to come, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
