Humility (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you once again for this opportunity to come your way, minister God’s word and spend a few moments in prayer. We’ve been looking at qualities of leadership and today, we will look at humility. Ephesians chapter 4, verse 2, ‘Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.’ Humility is the hallmark of a spiritual leader. Jesus exhorts His disciples to turn away from pompous attitudes of the Pharisees and the Sadducees and instead take on the lowly bearing of a servant. In today’s time, humility is one of the least admired attributes. Humility and leadership seem to be contradicting to each other. We often regard John the Baptist as great because of his burning eloquence and blistering denunciations of the evils during his time. His words pierced and exposed the hearts of men but his real greatness was revealed in one single affirmation, when he looks at Jesus and says, He must increase and I must decrease. Like other attitudes and qualities, a leader’s humility should grow with the passing of years. Here, John’s spiritual stature rings strong and clear. Humility is an essential component of effective leadership. Humility is characterized in scripture as a sign of gratitude while having a lack of arrogance. God calls us to be humble, servant leaders so that we can believe in His wisdom and promises that God has directed to us. Humility is characterized by the ability to acknowledge one’s own limitations and mistakes and to prioritize the needs and the perspectives of others over our own. First and fore most, humility builds trust and respect among team members. When leaders show vulnerability and admit their mistakes, they signal to their team that it is safe to do the same. This creates a culture of transparency and accountability while team members can learn from each other’s failures and work together towards improvements. Humility also helps leaders to recognize and appreciate the strength and contributions of others. It is through humility that leaders leave a lasting impact and inspire others to follow their example. Humble leaders acknowledge their limitations, relying on God’s strength rather their own. It is through humility that we will find true confidence. There is simply no servant leadership without love and no love without humility. True leadership is rooted in serving others selflessly and leading by example. By embracing servant leadership and leading with humility, we honor God and positively impact those we serve. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for your word. You have set the example for humility and we pray that you will enable each one of us to walk humbly before you, where your word clearly says, you oppose the proud but give grace to the humble. We pray that you give us the grace to walk in humility and to glorify your name, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
