Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. So glad to meet you today and today we are responding to the cry, Help, I’ve lost my focus. Focus is very important for us, to focus on something is to direct all our attention to something, some event, or some tasks to the exclusion of everything else. The ability to focus is very important for our lives and to do our work effectively. If we need to carry out some certain assignments maybe our studies or a project, we need to be able to focus and not get distracted with everything else around us. To focus is very important and it is a necessary skill in order to complete our tasks in a very timely manner. The ability to focus is very important to achieve our goals, to pursue God’s call for our lives. If we don’t focus, we will be distracted, if we are distracted, we will not be able to put all our attention and give all our effort and carry out those things, we will not be able to prioritize the things that we need to do and we will be running in different directions and at the end of the day, not being able to complete what we set out to do. So, all of us, as believers, this is a very important thing to be able to focus. How do we lose this ability to focus? James chapter 1 and verse 5 through 9, this is what it reads, ‘If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.’ We see a connection between doubting and being double minded. When we doubt God, when we doubt His word, His ways, His instructions, then we become double minded, we begin to second guess everything. When we become double minded, we are not able to focus. Secondly, it could be because we have not made up our mind, and not really purposed in our heart; like Daniel when he was in the kings court and in captivity in Babylon, the Bible says he purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the kings food and therefore we see that God backs him up with divine favor and he is able to hold onto what he decided, he has the strength to do that. When we become irresolute, when we don’t purpose in our heart or make up our mind, then we lose focus. Thirdly worry, when we worry about several things and unable to focus, our mind is preoccupied. So, worry also causes us to lose focus. Lastly, if it is sin, as a believer when we sin, it results in guilt, shame and condemnation before God and man. It hinders us from focusing on what we need to do. With all these challenges, we need to reclaim or retain our focus. How do we do that? First of all, determine and decide firmly on the course of action, purpose beforehand and make up of minds. Our minds are powerful, and we can make up our mind. Secondly, we need to build our faith in God and His word, by meditating on His word, by focusing on the word of God, by meditating, by confessing and by reading and actually doing it, we build our faith that way. Thirdly, we need to worry proof our life by receiving and allowing the peace of God to protect our heart and mind through Christ Jesus. If there is anything we have done, any sin, we can repent and renounce it. We need to reclaim our ability to focus. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you that you have given us this wonderful ability to focus and by doing so, carry out your plans and purposes. I pray, if for some reason we have lost that ability to focus, may that be restored, may we reclaim that ability to focus today, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
