Greetings and thank you so much for joining us this week for our daily devotionals. It's the last week of the year, it's also an exciting week because we're going to be transitioning into the new year ahead of us. So, we are closing out a year and getting ready for a brand new year, there is that that sense of anticipation, expectation, reorientation of Lord, we want you to do some new things for us in the year ahead in 2025 and also it's a time for us to reflect and think about the year that is getting ready to pass by. This week, we're going to talk about the benevolence of God, the goodness of God is another way of saying it, but we're focusing on His benevolence, the things that God gives to us freely as a good God and His kindness towards us. I just want to remind us of these things so that we can pause and give thanks to the Lord for it and also continue to expect the goodness of God in our lives because times do change, the calendar is going to go from 2024 to 2025, the years will change, time will pass but there's one thing the Bible says, God says in His word, I am God, I do not change. He is the one constant, He is the same yesterday, today, forever. He does not change and so He being a benevolent one, a God who is always good, He doesn't change and we can depend on it, we can count on His goodness to us. Psalm chapter 84, verse 11, the psalmist said, ‘for the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.’ So, the psalmist is telling us look, this is who God is. He is like a sun, He's like a shield. The sun gives the brightness, light and heat; the shield brings protection and He gives grace, His goodness, His glory out of who He is, He expresses and reveals and does things for us. To sum it all up He says, no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. I want us to understand this aspect of God's nature that it is not God who holds good things away from our lives. No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. As we seek to walk before Him, honor Him, live right before Him, walk in obedience to Him and follow His will for our lives, we can be assured that God will not withhold any good thing from us. Sometimes, we incorrectly state, oh God is holding this back, God is keeping that back but the scriptures say no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. In the New Testament James writes it like this, he says, if any of you lack wisdom, you ask God who gives to all men liberally without scolding. So, that's the nature of God! He's a giving God, He gives to all, He gives liberally and He gives without reproach or without scolding or complaining, that's the benevolence of God. No good thing will He withhold. As you journey into the new year, walk in with this expectation that God is not withholding any good thing from me. I'm expecting good things to flood my life because that's the God I serve. Let's pray, Father, we thank you for the assurance of your word that no good thing will you withhold from those who walk uprightly. Thank you for your goodness to us, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
