Shalom and welcome to another week of Living Supernaturally, where we look into God’s word and meditate on some of the truths that He has for us. This week, we will delve into a profound truth, a profound gift of free will that God has bestowed upon each one of us. The first question we may need to understand and ask is what is free will? When God created man, He created him in His own image and He gave us free will which simply means the ability to choose and make decisions. Free will is the power to decide what you will do in a certain situation. Our choices shape our lives, it impacts our relationship with God, it impacts our relationship with other people. Through this time of meditations, we will explore the responsibility and the divine guidance that is inherent in our ability to choose. We see the idea of free will right from the beginning of the bible in Genesis, when God created Adam and Eve. Genesis chapter 2, verses 16 and 17 reads, ‘And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” When we look at this verse, we read that at creation, God gave Adam the ability to choose. In this case, to eat from any tree of the garden other than the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God gave Adam the ability to make a choice. God’s instruction was very clear and this wasn’t meant to be restrictive but to be protective. God’s command showed Adam and Eve that they had the freedom to make choices. They could choose either to obey God and His commands and enjoy His blessings or they could choose to disobey and face the consequences. God didn’t create humanity as puppets on strings. Instead, He gave us the dignity of choice, allowing us to discern what is right, what is wrong, allowing us to discern obedience and disobedience. This passage reminds us that God values our ability to choose. He respects our freedom to make decisions but He also holds us accountable for our choices. Just like Adam and Eve, we face daily choices that shape our lives and impact or very relationship with God. As we reflect on this, let us recognize the profound significance of God’s gift of free will. Like Adam, you and I are faced everyday with decisions that we need to make. Let’s pray that in humility and reverence, that we will choose to walk in obedience to God’s commands and that we will trust His guidance and provisions. Let us use the gift of free will wisely so that we will experience the fullness of life and find communion with God our creator who lovingly offers us the gift of freewill. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, what a privilege it is to know that you have entrusted us with the gift of free will, that you have given us a choice, that you see us as people who need to make choices. We pray even as we explore and understand and meditate on free will through this week, that you will open our hearts and guide us in being responsible in making the right choices, thank you for hearing our prayer, in Jesus’s, name, Amen.
