Daily Devotional church in Bangalore

Shalom and welcome to the last episode in this series, where we’ve been having a wonderful time looking at the life of the judges and learning some valuable lessons for our lives here today. For our focus today, our last judge that we are going to be meditating on is Samson. Samson was the last judge of Israel. Just before the kings began to rule Israel, he came into leadership. He was chosen by God to be a judge and a leader of the Israelites, at the time when they were oppressed by the Philistines. The account of Samson shows us how he violated God’s law many times. He violated God’s law by marrying pagans; later after he had killed a lion, he ate the honey found on the carcass, something that was prohibited for a Nazarite and other situations as well. Samson willingly went into these situations that led to sin but each time, we see that God used him for His glory. We see that even through Samson’s life, even his sin couldn’t prevent God’s sovereignty from coming to pass. Samson’s most famous story revolves around his relationship with Delilah who was persuaded by the Philistines to discover the source of his strength. Ater many attempts, Delilah convinces Samson to reveal the secret and this led to the capture of Samson by the Philistines. They blinded him, imprisoned him and put him in a place where he was imprisoned. In a final act of strength, we see that Samson prays to God for his strength to return one last time and he pulls down the pillars of a Philistines temple killing himself and many of his enemies. We see a prayer there, Samson says in Judges chapter 16, verse 28, ‘Then Samson called to the LORD, saying, “O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!”’ In the midst of these failures, Samson experiences a moment of repentance and redemption. As he prays to God for strength one last time, God grants him the ability to bring down the Philistines. Samson’s story illustrates God’s ability to redeem even the most broken and flawed people. No matter how far we have fallen or how grievous our sins or our mistakes maybe, God is ready to forgive, He redeems us and restores us when we return to Him in repentance. Samson’s story offers a story of hope even in our weakest moments. As we reflect on the life of Samson, may we learn from his strengths as well as his weakness. May we find hope in God’s ability to redeem us and to restore us, even when we are broken and flawed. Let us rely on the strength of God to overcome temptation, to walk in His ways and to fulfill His purpose in our lives. Shall we pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for he lessons we learnt. Thank you that when we come to you in repentance, you are there to forgive, redeem and restore us. May we walk in your ways, may we not be led into temptations, may we stand by your word and may we be completely integral to you. Thank you for hearing our prayer and what we have learnt through this week, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
