Daily Devotional church in Bangalore

Greetings and thank you for tuning in to Living Supernaturally. As always, it is our joy to come to you and take a few moments to be in God’s word and prayer. We are about to journey into an exciting new year, 2025 and I thought it would be good for us to ponder on a very familiar text but it is always good to remind ourselves of things that we’ve heard before. The text for us this week is from Philippians chapter 3, verses 12 to 14, where the apostle Paul writes, ‘Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.’ This week, to focus on the past, the present, the future. How do we as believers live in this convergence of the past, the present and the future? It is true that at any moment in our lives, all of these three different time perspectives are pulling on our lives. There is the reality of the past, things that have happened, there is the reality of the now- the present, what we are going through and then there is the expectation of the future. How do we live in the pull or in having all of these three dimensions affecting our thinking and our perspectives? I want us to spend some time on that. The first thing that we want to emphasize today (we will pick up on this tomorrow) is what Paul says here, forgetting those things which are behind. As believers and people, we must learn to forget things that are behind us, that means we are not staying focused on it, we are not living in them, we are not brooding on them. Imagine if people that every time talk about things, they only talk about the good old days, it’s always five, ten or twenty years ago. Well, it’s nice to recall the good old days but we can’t live in them, those days are gone. So, we have got to learn to intentionally forget and let go off things, especially when we have gone through some difficult, painful times where we have messed up/ made mistakes, things that tend to pull us down, we need to let go. Forget the past, Paul says, forgetting things that are behind. Sometimes, we make the mistake of dwelling in the good things of the past as though good things will never come again or not be there for us today, that is a wrong thing to have. We need to let go off the past, good and bad things and not let them dictate our life. So, learn to let go of things of the past. What’s behind us is behind us, is in the past. Let’s pray, Father, we ask that you will give us to wisdom and understanding of how to journey through life as we handle the past, the present and the future. Give us understanding we pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
