Focus (Daily Devotional)

Hello everyone, trust that you are doing well and especially students that you are keeping strong as you prepare for exams and as you write your exams. Today, we are going to look at another subject that will help us and that is to stay focused. It is so important for us to keep the focus. As we are all aware, there are so many things in the world around us that can distract us and especially today, where we have social media and different things that can just take away our time and we would never even know where our time went. But while we are studying for our exams, we want to make use of every single minute that we have and that requires focus. So, what are some of the things that will help us keep our focus? It is good to have goals, it is good to set goals for oneself. Goals would mean what you may want to do after your course, what kind of marks are you looking at, these are sort of the long-term goals. But currently when you are studying maybe you could breakdown the workload that you have into smaller assignments and have weekly study goals or daily study goals. A very key things while we talk about focus is to have achievable goals. Achievable goals are very realistic, where we know what our capacity is and how much we can actually work and achieve through that particular day or that particular work. We have already said that when we do this, it is helpful and we would begin to see that as we work on our focus, we will get better and better. In 1 Corinthians chapter 15, verse 58, Paul writes to the Corinthians, he says, ‘Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.’ Just this word ‘steadfast’ that I wanted to talk to us about, it means being dutifully firm, unwavering or settled, that is the kind of attitude we are looking at while we are preparing for our exams or things that are ahead of us. The bible also teaches us to plan. In Proverbs chapter 4, verse 26, we see, the scripture tells us’ Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established.’ So, simply it is teaching us to make use of all the resources that we have. Now this would mean the time that is given to us and the energy that we have and other things that have been given to us, we put it into good use as we plan out a schedule or a proper way of doing things. If we plan things up, that is great but we need to go ahead and do what we have planned. Putting away what needs to be done is known as procrastination and that is something we can overcome with God’s help and so I just want to encourage us, be strong in the Lord, keep the focus, don’t let anything distract you and once you plan, do your best to work with the plan and God is with you, God will help you, God will strengthen you. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you that you go before us. Father, I pray for everyone who is diligently working on preparations of their exams, I pray that you will give them the grace to make use of all the resources that they can shine for the glory of your name, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
