Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Paul Emmanuel

Hello everyone, welcome once again to Living Supernaturally. It is such a joy to come together to spend these few moments in God’s word and prayer. This week, we are talking about the church and God is calling us to be the church. Community is team work! Ecclesiastes chapter 4, verses 9 through 12, ‘Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.’ Even as we read these verses, we are reminded of the story in Mark chapter 2 about the friends who brought the paralyzed man and lowered him from the roof and set him in front of Jesus. While this story is about so much more than just team work, imagine if one person had tried to lower that man through the roof instead of a group of them? How well would have that worked out? Ephesians chapter 4, verse 12 refers to the church, the community of believers as the Body of Christ. The church is to work as a team. 1 Corinthians chapter 12 unpacks the idea of a church as a Body is greater depth using the systems of the human body as an analogy for the way team members need to rely on each other. Strong teams just like strong bodies are made up of interdependent members fulfilling dependent tasks or defined tasks. There is no jealousy in team work. The whole team is working for the glory of God, there is no internal competition. The apostle Paul says this beautifully, ‘I planted the seed, Apollos watered it but God made it grow.’ What God is doing requires team work from our part. The sower and the reaper maybe clad together. Thus, the saying, ‘one sows and another one reaps.’ ‘I sent you to reap what you have not worked for; others have done the hard work and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.’ The writer of Ecclesiastes knew the benefits working together. His description of a man working aloe is heart breaking. In the end, all of that man’s labor is meaningless. Working together with others gives greater reward, more resistance and in the end, just plain smart. We are stronger together. Team work makes the dream work. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you for your word. We thank you for teaching us that we are not alone but we are called to work as a team and even as we look at your life example, Lord Jesus, that you raised up teams, you worked in teams. Even as a church, we pray that we will work in teams, interdependent with each other, lifting up each other and even as we work as teams to glorify your Body, to build up your Body here on earth, we thank you for this opportunity, we give you all the praise and glory, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
