Hello and welcome, we've been studying some Scriptures that have inspired some of the songs written by APC music and today we look at Psalm chapter 1 and the song that has been inspired that has come out of Psalms chapter 1 is a song called ‘Come Alive’. Psalms chapter 1 describes the condition of a man who does certain things and also does not do certain things. So, let's look at what he does not do, and the condition of the man is blessedness. Psalms chapter 1 says, blessed is this man and so he does not do certain things, what does he not do? He does not live his life following the counsel of the ungodly. So, he's discerning, he does not follow the advice/ wisdom/ counsel of the ungodly, which go against the wisdom of God and the ways of God. Secondly, he does not pattern his life and choices in the manner of sinners. Thirdly, he does not make decisions and judgments as the scornful do. So, what does he do? What is that one thing he does? He takes pleasure in the word of God, in His precepts, in His principles, in His instructions and His ways. He delights in the law of God; he delights in the word of God. Hebrews chapter four and verse 12 says, ‘for the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is the discerner of the thoughts and the intents of the heart.’ Not only does he delight in God's laws, but he also takes time. This person takes time to fill his mind and meditate continuously on the word of God. So, he gives that mind space to the word of God, to the truth of who God is and the truth of His instructions. And as he does so, this life producing word of God causes him to be like a tree that is planted by the rivers of water. What is this tree like? It is flourishing by the banks of this river because it's got a continuous supply, and this is what it does, it's got this never-ending supply which causes it to bear fruit in season and its leaves do not dry out. So also, is a man who does this. So, we have an invitation in this Psalm to come, to move from a place of just existing, and to truly come alive in the presence of God, with the word of God, saturated with the truth of God's word, to receive that life from God's word so that it manifests in our life. So, come here is this invitation to come alive, be planted in life.
