Breastplate Of Righteousness (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally, thank you once again for this opportunity to minister God's word and spend a few moments in prayer. Today, we look at the breastplate of righteousness. The breastplate was usually a tough, sleeveless piece of leather or a heavy material with animal horn or hoof pieces sown on, covering the soldier’s full torso, protecting the heart and the vital organs. Righteousness and faith go hand in hand. Righteousness in its simplest sense is being right with God. No one may be right before God in their own merit. On the other side of the cross, in the days of biblical patriarchs, Abraham was first called righteous. His faith in God was counted to him as righteousness, he believed God. For us, our faith in Jesus has put us in a right standing with God. His righteousness has been imputed into each one of us through His atoning work on the cross. Because of Jesus, we are right with God. God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God. When the enemy comes to us with accusations on what we may have said or done that is wrong, we can reply what Jesus cried out from the cross. He said, ‘it is finished.’ The Greek word ‘tetelestai’ is an accounting term which means paid in full. He paid our debt of sin, there is nothing that we need to add to the righteousness that has been imparted to our lives. It's not 95% of Jesus's work and 5% of our work, it is all Jesus. Christ has fully paid the debt. At salvation, a breastplate is issued to each repentant sinner, it is specially designed by God to protect our heart and our soul from the evil and deceptions that we see around us. The breastplate of righteousness has Christ's name stamped on it and He says, your righteousness isn't sufficient to protect you, wear mine. As we wear Christ's breastplate of righteousness, we begin to develop a purity of heart that translates into actions. Wearing this breastplate creates a lifestyle of putting into practice what we believe in our hearts. As our lives become conformed to the image of Christ, our choices become more righteous and these godly choices also protect us from further temptations and deception. When armor is abused or worn incorrectly, it can malfunction. Carelessness, unbelief and abusing grace can hinder our ability to stand firm and defeat the enemy in our lives. We need the breastplate of righteousness in place so that we can gain victory over the enemy. Let us pray, Father, we thank you for your word, we thank you for teaching us the importance of righteousness and even as we put on that breastplate of righteousness, help us to buckle it tight to know that we are in right standing before you because of what you did for us on the cross. Even as we are battling many journeys in our life or the many seasons in our life, we pray that you will teach us to stand righteous in your presence. We thank you and we praise you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
