Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Jeyakumar Isaiah

Hello and welcome, today we are studying some scriptures which have inspired some of the songs written by APC music. I'm sure you would have heard ‘Better than life’ or the Hindi version of it ‘Jeevan se Badkar’. Now, ‘Jeevan se Badkar’ or ‘better than life’ is from Psalm chapter 63. Now Psalm chapter 63 is a desperate cry of the heart for more of God. It's a longing and it's a yearning for God. The psalmist was in the wilderness, he was in the wilderness, it was a harsh physical environment, it was hot, dry, dusty and there was no water, and he was on the run because his life was in danger from his own son who was hunting him down. Now that was the condition, so in his physical discomfort, in his pain, and loneliness and heaviness of heart and discouragement, he falls on God and he cries out, that is what we see in verse one, ‘Oh God! You are my God! Early will I seek you, my soul thirsts for you, my flesh longs for you, in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.’ He then remembers the sanctuary, the dwelling place of God, in the presence of God in worship, encountering God in His power and glory and declares how he used to declare with hands lifted up in worship that God's loving kindness is indeed better than life itself. And this revelation of God's love causes the psalmist, as he recalls that worship in the sanctuary, it causes the psalmist to make some declarations. He says, my lips shall praise you, my mouth shall praise you, I will lift up my hands in your name, I will bless you while I live, despite the circumstances, despite the environment, he's able to come to this place because of his revelation of God's love and His loving kindness. So, God's love, His loving kindness takes us from a place of brokenness to a place of healing and wholeness. God's love and kindness takes us from a place of need to a place of great contentment. Yes, knowing God and experiencing His love is so much better than life itself. Tera prem hain Jeevan se badkar prabhu.
