Belt Of Truth (Daily Devotional)

Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally, thank you so much for yet another opportunity to come your way, to minister God's word and spend these few moments in prayer. This week, we are picking up from the armor of God and today, we will look at the belt of truth. The belt known as the balteus holds the roman soldier’s caveat and sword. The Roman military belt was also a status symbol in the first’s century. Roman soldiers wore their belts on and off duty. So, the belt itself became a badge of identification. A Roman soldier’s belt was typically wide, worn on the outside of the tunic and served multiple purposes. First of all, when necessary, a soldier could tuck his long tunic into his belt for ease of movement during hand-to- hand combat or if he needed to run. Second, a Roman soldier’s belt provided core support. Since the soldier carried more equipment than most, the belt helped him to remain uptight, stable and strong while on his feet all day. Thirdly, the belt doubled as a tool belt giving the soldier a place to sheath his weapons. What good is a soldier whose hands are full? The point is a soldier didn’t leave home without his belt. It was not an optional piece of attire like it is for many today. A soldier’s belt accompanied the centerstage of his uniform which is why Paul attached the believers equipping of truth to the soldier’s belt. Other translations say ‘having girded your loins with truth.’ What does that mean? In ancient world, girding oneself is done in preparation for strenuous activity. Thus, inherent world, it is foundational to be girded with God’s truth, the word that He has proclaimed. Three things that the bible reveals about the truth that can change our lives. The truth will set us free; the truth allows us to be prepared and the truth guides us into safe paths. Without truth, there is no righteousness. Without truth, sin reigns. Without truth, there is no justice. Without truth, there is no salvation. Jesus says this clearly in John chapter 14, verse 6, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.’ Only through Him we can be brought to the Father. Only through Him, we can be saved from our sins and an eternity in God’s presence. Like Romans soldiers’ belt, our belt sets us apart. It identifies us as children of God and followers of Jesus. Truth is foundational to our identity in Christ. We study God’s word so we know what is true, we fasten His truth tightly around our waist, prepare for action and step out confidently with the one who is the truth that is Jesus Christ. Let us pray, Father, we thank you for your word and the aspect of the belt of truth. Even as we have learnt, it is the truth of your word that girds us and strengthens us and helps us to stand straight and upright. We pray that even as we put on this belt of truth, you will enable us to stand by the truth of your word in every season of our life, to be ready to face the world knowing that you are there with us, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
