Daily Devotional church in Bangalore
by Ps Nancy Ramya

Hello everyone, welcome. We are talking about overcoming satan, our adversary. We see that Paul gives us a picture of a Roman soldier in Ephesians chapter 6 and there are parts of the armor of the Roman soldier which are used to describe our spiritual armor. God has given us a spiritual armor which we need to put on. Some of the parts of the spiritual armor are a helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, belt of truth, shoes of the gospel, sword- the word of God and a shield of faith. When we have the parts of the armor in place, just like a soldier who goes to war, we too will be protected but a necessity is to put on the armor of God and to remember that we are always in the battlefield. There is not a moment where we can put our guard down and assume that the enemy will be on a vacation but he is always looking to attack the believer and we live in the battleground. To have the armor on at all times is so very important. Let’s talk about the parts of the armor. The helmet of salvation simply refers to our renewed mind which is rooted and grounded in the reality of who we are in Christ. When we are clear about our identity in Christ, it is as if we have a helmet that protects our head which is a very important part of our body because it houses the brain, mind and our intellectual capacity. For a believer to be anchored in the truth of who we are in Christ is necessary and very important. Then the part which is the breastplate of righteousness, the breastplate which covers the chest is an important part because it protects the heart. The breastplate of righteousness simply means that we must be established in the fact that we are now the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and that we practice righteousness in our lives. The belt of truth means that we are anchored to the truth of God’s word, we are aware of the truth, live by it and speak the truth. The shoes of the gospel- as children of God, we are called to share the gospel, make Christ known and so, the readiness of the shoes of the gospel or preparedness to share Christ at any time is actually a protection that God gives us. Then of course, we can use the word against satan and we have faith which acts as a shield. As long as we have the armor of God on, we can walk protected and overcome the enemy. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you that you have provided completely for our victory and protection. Help us to have our armors on and to always overcome the enemy, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
