Shalom and welcome to another episode of Living Supernaturally. Yesterday, we started with a new subject on how to be a blessing. Our focus yesterday was one of the biggest examples that we see in scripture is how Jesus gave His life for us and was a blessing and what we can learn from that. In today’s episode, we are looking at another part of how we can be a blessing. One of the verses in the bible which is in Proverbs chapter 11, verse 28 and specially the Passion translation beautifully captures the essence of being a blessing to others. Let’s read that together, ‘those who live to bless others will have blessings heaped upon them, and the one who pours out his life to pour out blessings will be saturated with favor.’ When we make it a mission to bless others, God responds by pouring out His blessings upon us which means we are saturated with favor. These blessings could come in different forms, maybe a sense of peace, joy, fulfillment and sometimes even unexpected opportunities. An example that we see of Proverbs chapter 11, verse 25 in action can be found in the story of the widow of Zarephath in 1 Kings chapter 17. We may be very familiar with that story. It reads that during the time of severe drought, God sent the prophet Elijah to a widow in the town of Zarephath and it was at this time she was preparing to make a meal for herself and her son with the last bit of flour and oil that she had expecting that they would die after that was over. Despite this desperate situation, the widow chose to trust Elijah’s word from God and generously shares her very last bit of food with him. She puts Elijah’s need before her own even when it seemed that she had nothing left to give. What do we read and understand through this? That even as she blessed Elijah, she got back favor. God’s favor is like refreshing rain that really saturates the ground. When we give abundantly, we are positioning ourselves to receive from God, from His abundant favor which refreshes and rejuvenates us in return. Because of the widow’s willingness to bless Elijah, God then miraculously provides for her. The flour and the oil didn’t run out and she and her son had enough to eat for the days to come. Her act of generosity, even at the time of desperate need led to abundant blessing, just being heaped and poured over her. This verse emphasizes the reciprocal nature of generosity. When we live to bless others, we find ourselves being blessed beyond measure, drenched in the favor of God. So, let us embrace this truth and commit to living generously, knowing that when we pour out blessings, we will be richly rewarded in turn by God. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, your promise is real that even as we choose to bless, you will bless us in return and we will be saturated with the favor of God. We pray that you will move our hearts to be sacrificial and generous knowing that you are the rewarder of our blessing. Thank you for hearing our prayer, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
