Greetings and thank you for giving us this opportunity to come to you. We are starting off a brand-new week and during the course of this week, we are going to reflect on the Old Testament offerings that God had instructed His people to bring and trying to understand their significance from a New Testament perspective and what it means to us as New Testament believers. As we begin this today, we want to remind ourselves of the fact that we as New Testament believers, we do not make literal offerings like what they used to do under the Old Testament but we recognize that our worship of God, our offerings are spiritual sacrifices that we give to God, spiritual sacrifices of praise and worship. The bible also tells us we present our bodies as a living sacrifice. We offer the sacrifice of praise as it says in Hebrews chapter 13, verse 5. Our good works, things we do to bless other people are a sweet aroma that goes up to God, they are sacrifices that are well pleasing to God. So, the good works that we do are also part of the offering that we lift up to God. But as we journey through this week, we are going to look at the different kinds of offerings and what they mean to us as New Testament believers. One of the most important things for us to recognize is that these offerings were pointing to Christ Himself who was a one and complete offering, who made Himself and offered Himself up as a one and complete offering unto God. That is what the book of Hebrews the tenth chapter points to us saying that under the Old Testament, the people had to bring those offerings year after year but in Christ, one offering was made and we no longer do those repetitive offerings, but we through Christ now offer up our spiritual sacrifices which is completely voluntary and based on Christ’ completed sacrifice given to us. So, as we journey together this week, we are going to gain some amazing insights from the Old Testament offerings and see what they mean to us as New Testament people who worship God in spirit and in truth based on the offering of Christ Himself. Let’s pray, Father, we thank you that we could worship you in spirit and in truth, that every offering that we bring to you- our praise, our worship, our good works, our ministries, our services, we do it because of that one complete sacrifice that Jesus made which makes everything else we do acceptable to you because of His blood. So, we thank you first and foremost for the offering and the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ and based on that, we worship you in spirit and in truth, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
