Holy Habits - Don’t Neglect Community (Daily Devotional)

Hello everyone and welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotions of All Peoples church, where we spend a few minutes in God's word to encourage and build our faith and to live a life fruitful for God's kingdom. This week, we've been focusing on the team holy habits, building godly habits to live a godly life. Today, I just want to emphasize the habit of building godly friends. Do not neglect community, but to build godly friendships and to have godly friends. Hebrews chapter 10, verses 24 to 25, ‘Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day approaching.’ We are living in the most connected world today, where we are connected through our devices, we have so many followers, we are part of group chats, but the same stats say we are one of the most loneliest generations. We may seem like we are connected, but truly are we connected and do we really have friends? This is the question that we need to ask ourselves. And especially for those of us who are in faith, do we have godly friends? And that is the focus for today. Scripture shows us the power of godly friends and I just want to focus on these three or four pictures. The power of two, the power of three, the power of four, power of the church. The power of two, David and Jonathan were friends. They made a covenant with each other, especially when David needed a friend in his life, Jonathan was that friend. Paul and Silas, when they were in prison in Acts chapter 16, they were together as friends praising and worshipping God. So, that's the power of two. Power of three, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus got Peter, James, and John, and He asked them to watch and pray over Him. Jesus, in one of His most sorrowful, toughest seasons of His life, asked three of His closest disciples, Peter, James, and John, to watch over Him, the power of three. Power of four, in Mark chapter 2, we see four friends carrying a paralyzed man, breaking through the roof, and lowering this man to Jesus to get their healing. Jesus saw their faith and brought healing. So, that is the power of four. And lastly, we know there is so much power being part of the church. When Peter was in prison, the church prayed earnestly for him. This gives you a power of the prayer of a church. And so, I would want to encourage each one of us to have friends, whether it's two, whether it's three, whether it's four, or whether it's being part of the church. There's so much power being part of a godly community, having friends in your life who can watch and pray over you, especially in moments that are tough, where we are at the end of ourselves, that's where friends can come. They can watch and they can pray over us. I pray that this will remind us to make it a habit to build godly friends. Take time out to talk to people who are of the same faith, who have a passion for Jesus, and together live life and we know that there's so much blessing when we are part of community, where God's blessing flows in the church, when we are planted in the church, He says that we will flourish in His gates. I pray that each one of us will have our godly friends and be part of a church of a community. Let's pray, Father, we just thank you once again for this reminder. You have placed people around us, we are not meant to live in isolation, but you have enabled us to be relational beings, to have friendships. And Lord, I pray that each one of us will take time intentionally to build godly friendships, especially in times of trouble, that we will have friends and we will be the friend to watch and pray over them, to encourage them, to support them. We just thank you for this time, thank you for this reminder, Lord. I pray that each one of us will be plugged into a community, where we will be part of the church and we will truly flourish because of the blessing of being part of your body. We thank you once again for this promise, thank you for this reminder, in Jesus' mighty name we pray, Amen.
