Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much for joining us for this time. We’ve come to the last day of this week; we’ve been talking about healing. Today, we will look at what we have we give. Acts chapter 3, verse 6, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’ In this story, we see the apostles Peter and John going together to the temple to pray. The picture of devotion and community is contrasted with that of a beggar being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful every day and left there the whole day begging for bread. At busy intersections in cities today, we can sometimes see people holding signs asking for food or money. Though we may wonder if they are truthful about their situation. We all know what happens when we come across them. We usually avoid eye contact, looking at them but the apostles didn’t avoid eye contact. Our passage says, Peter looked straight at the man who was lame and even asked him to look at them. Expecting some coins of gold or silver, the man looked up but Peter’s next words would have been discouraging to the person who was begging. Peter says, silver or gold I do not have. But then came the words of healing, in the name of Jesus Christ, and beyond his wildest dreams, the man was able to walk and jump for joy. When faced with the lame beggar, Peter offers something better than money, he offers healing. He proved that healing through the name of Jesus, the name, the Greek word ‘onama’ is not just an identifier but it encompasses the essence of the person. In this case, Jesus’ character, sovereignty, authority, power and deity as God. Peter doesn’t use Jesus of Nazareth as a magic spell, he has faith in the person of Jesus, he has the power of the Holy Spirit, he has the authority from Jesus to heal, if it was Jesus’ purposes. So, he has the confidence that Jesus would heal and honor Peter’s words. Some may have faith that Jesus can grant what they ask but that doesn’t mean that they can superficially ask using Jesus’ name and get whatever they want. James warns us when he says, you do not receive because you ask wrongly to spend it on your passions. Others may have exterior motives but no faith, like the sons of Sceva who tried to exercise a demon by the name of Jesus who Paul preached but got beaten up. Part of praying in Jesus’ name means submitting to His purposes. John makes this clear when he says, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. Since we always don’t know Jesus’ will, it is enough to ask for what we think we need and trust that Jesus will take care of our need. Let us pray, Father, we thank you for this entire week where we were able to look at various ways that you ministered healing. We thank you that you are the same yesterday, today and forever. We believe that you have given us the authority to trample over snakes and scorpions. We pray that we will use this authority to receive healing in our lives, in our body, mind, soul and spirit. We commit ourselves to you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
