Greetings and welcome to Living Supernaturally. Thank you so much once again for giving us this opportunity to minister God’s word and spend a few moments of prayer. This week, we’ve been talking about bible study and application of God’s word into our lives. We wrap up this week by talking about transformation. Romans chapter 12, verse 2, ‘And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.’ In the bible, transformation means change or renewal from a life that no longer conforms to the ways of the world to the one that pleases God. This is accomplished by renewing our minds, an inward spiritual transformation that will manifest itself through outward actions. The bible presents the transformed life in Christ as demonstrated through bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. Transformation involves those who were once far away from God being drawn near to Him through the blood of Christ. The evidence of transformation within us is seen in the way we increasingly reflect the likeness of Jesus Christ. Transformed lives begin with the gospel message of Christ for it is the power of God, it is the gospel that brings salvation. Here are a few principles that can help us to understand how spiritual change takes place. Deep, lasting spiritual change is a process. It rarely happens overnight. It involves training, testing and time, there are no shortcuts. We hear of people dramatically being delivered from drug addictions or alcoholism and we may wonder why God doesn’t do that for me? Why do I have to struggle with these addictions? Occasionally, God does grant instantaneous victory but more often, He leads us through a process that requires obedience, faith, discipline and time. Spiritual change requires desire. Do I really want to change or am I content to remain as I am? How important is it for me to be like Jesus? What price am I willing to pay? Thirdly, spiritual change requires discipline; discipline for the purpose of godliness is not the same as self-effort. It means consciously cooperating with the Holy Spirit. Spiritual change or transformation is brought about by the Holy Spirit. True spiritual change is initiated and enabled by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. It is all through the grace of God which we receive as we persevere in humility and obedience. Through the gospel of Christ, we learn to put off our old self which belongs to the former life and put on the things of God. Let us pray, Father, we want to thank you for this entire week, for all that we learnt through your word. We pray that even as we journey together reading God’s word, help us to apply everything that we learnt into our lives, bear fruit for your kingdom, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
