The Door (Daily Devotional)

by Ps Nancy Ramya

Hello everyone, welcome! We are examining the direct claims that Jesus made, these are also known as the ‘I am’ claims. Today, we are going to look at John chapter 10 and verse 9, it says, ‘I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.’ The Lord Jesus was claiming that He is the door to salvation, so anyone who enters by Him, will be saved and we know examining the other claims that He made and in this very passage, Him talking about Himself as the good shepherd, He was referring to Himself as the Messiah, the anointed one who came to buy our redemption. Jesus is pointing to Himself as the single point of entry into the kingdom of God. We know that it took a sacrifice on the part of Jesus to fulfill His assignment and to become that sacrifice and He rose up victorious from the dead and He took the keys of hell, and He carries the authority which He has given His believers here on the earth. The Lord Jesus became that single point of entry into the kingdom of God and all the blessings of the cross. When we study a little bit more about the kind of shepherds that they had during their times and Jesus talking about Him being the door to the sheep, apparently a shepherd would so cover the fence that when it came to the door potion of the fence, he himself would lie down there, so it would take for us to move the shepherd to enter into the sheep pen. In this way, He is trying to tell us that He is that single point of entry into the kingdom of God and into the Father’s house, He is the one who will reconcile us to the Father, He is our source of light, He is the one who will forgive our sins, who has made restitution for our sins. This is a very strong claim of Jesus to be the entrance to all the treasures of God and to be the door. I’m reminded of the time when the Lord Jesus died on the cross, when the veil was torn in two, till that time, only the appointed priest could enter into the holy of holies and at a given time in a year, but Jesus became that open door for us to directly enter the presence of God. Today, we enjoy the presence of God at all times, and we move in boldly. What a privilege we have because Jesus is our door! Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you, that Jesus is the door for us to know you and to experience the glory of the Godhead and for salvation. Thank you for salvation, we pray that those who have not tasted of it, that they will be able to taste it, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
