Hello everyone, we're talking about pursuing God and today, we will talk about pursuing faith.
As we consider faith, this is something that Jesus looked for everywhere and among all the
people and whenever He encountered faith in the heart of a person, He was pleased and there
were miracles that were released because of the presence of faith. So, let's talk about faith.
Let's read through a passage from Matthew chapter 8 and verses 8 and 10, it says, "The
centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof. But
only speak a word, and my servant will be healed." Verse 10, ‘When Jesus heard it, He
marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great
faith, not even in Israel." So here is Jesus being impressed by the faith of this Roman centurion
and the reason why the Roman centurion could have spoken these words is because he
understood authority. He knew that if a person in authority spoke or instructed gave a
command that people would need to follow it and not only that, he understood who Jesus was.
And surely, he wasn't looking at Jesus as just one of those leaders or one of those teachers, but
he knew that this individual is divine and carried the power of God. And with that kind of faith,
the centurion speaks to the Lord Jesus and asks Him to just say a word, just to speak a word
with authority and that that word would heal his servant. And as Jesus hears the centurion and
not only the words of the centurion, but the faith in the heart of the centurion, He's so blessed
and He says, "I have not found such great faith not even in Israel." So, Jesus is also commenting
about the extent of great faith. The centurion carried great faith and today as we meditate on
this passage, the question is if we carry faith in our hearts and if that faith is even great faith in
the sight of God that can please the heart of God and God is looking for faith. Hebrews chapter
11 and verse 6 tells us that faith pleases God. Anyone who comes to God must approach Him
with faith and so each one of us is responsible to increase or develop our faith. How are we
going to develop our faith? The scriptures again tell us that faith comes by hearing and hearing
by the word of God. So, as we take time in God's word, as we spend time in his word faith will
grow in us. Faith will increase in our hearts and we will see the breakthroughs of God and we
will walk into the fulfillment of His promises. God is looking for faith in our hearts. Let's pray
that each one of us will be people of faith and pursue faith. Let's pray together, Heavenly
Father, we thank you for the faith that we are carrying in our hearts today and we pray that our
faith may increase that we may walk into breakthroughs in every area of our lives. help us to be
diligent with your word and in your presence, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
